500 Words writing competition

30th January 2019

If you’re taking part in the BBC Radio 2 “500 Words” short story-writing competition this year, you may be looking for resources to help get you started. Whether it’s superheroes, a spooky story, pirates or even a more traditional story, you can trust LearningGrids to motivate and support your pupils and get them ready to rise to this fun challenge!

Here’s a superhero story idea you might want to try – or use it to inspire any other ideas – the only limit is your imagination! Let’s start by organising what we want to happen in a Storyboard planner. Add pictures, quick notes and even recordings.

Children can then use a mind map to gather a bank of fantastic superhero language and “wow words”. Once the ideas are down on the Clicker Board, simply right-click on the grid background to create a word bank, or use the ready-made Superhero Words.

You’re all set to create a mind-blowing, out-of-this-world superhero story! Of course, you can use the same activity templates for any other story idea you have too! Let’s get writing!
