What are the minimum requirements for Clicker 8?
Clicker 8 works on Windows and Mac computers.
- Windows specifications: Windows 8.1 or Windows 10
- Mac specifications: High Sierra (10.13) to Catalina (10.15)
What are the minimum requirements for Clicker Writer?
- iPad specifications: iOS 11 or above.
- Chromebook specifications: Chrome OS 78 or above, with Google Drive enabled
How different is Clicker 8 to previous versions?

What’s the difference between Clicker 8 and Clicker Writer?
Both products include the core child-friendly word processing features that Clicker is known for, including speech feedback, word prediction, Voice Notes, picture support, and the ability to provide topic-specific Sentence Sets, Connect Sets and Word Banks (whether they are the ready-made ones we provide or resources you create yourself). Certain Clicker features are only available in Clicker 8; these currently include mind mapping, books, Cloze activities, matching activities, and speaking and listening activities.
Do you have any research on the effectiveness of Clicker?
Clicker is used in thousands of schools around the world to develop students’ literacy skills, raise writing attainment and enjoyment, and help learners work more independently. We have a number of efficacy reports available to read here.
How does the licensing work?
Many schools are using a combination of devices to support their learners. Our new Clicker universal licensing enables you to ‘mix and match’ Clicker 8 licenses for your Windows/Mac machines with Clicker Writer licenses for your iPads and Chromebooks. For example, if you purchased a subscription for ’10 licenses’ of Clicker, this could be 10 licenses for Clicker 8, or 5 for Clicker 8 and 5 for Clicker Writer etc…choose whichever combination works best for your school’s set-up.
Is the licensing per user or per device?
The licensing for Clicker 8 (Win / Mac) and Clicker Writer (iPad) is
per device. Clicker Writer Chromebook licenses are per user.
For example, with a ‘10 License’ subscription for Clicker you could:
- Install Clicker 8 on five computers
- Install Clicker Writer on three iPads
- Give two Chromebook users access to Clicker Writer
When I purchase Clicker, how long does the license last?
All our Clicker licenses are a 3-year subscription.
How do I get my software?
You will receive an email from us with the license keys and installation details. If you are unable to find this, please call us at 203 221 2697 and we can resend this information to you.
When does the subscription for Clicker start?
The day that we send you the email with your license keys, unless you request a specific date for the license to start.
Can I move the licenses if we change the devices we are using?
Yes – you can manage your licenses, including transferring them to different devices, via your Clicker license management system. Full details on this process can be found here.
What is included in a Site License?
The Site License is the best value license as it enables you to install Clicker 8 on all of your school computers and have Clicker Writer on all your iPads and/or Chromebooks. The Site License also includes home access to Clicker 8/Clicker Writer for your students and teaching faculty.
Why have you stopped providing a single user license?
The overwhelming feedback from existing Clicker customers was that even in cases where schools are supporting just one student with Clicker, a second license is required so that facilitators have access to the software for planning, preparation and assessment purposes. That's why we have introduced a new ‘1+1’ license.
How does a 1+1 license work?
The 1+1 license gives you up to two installations of Clicker, ensuring that both the pupil and the staff member supporting their learning have access to the program. This license could be two licenses for Clicker 8, two licenses for Clicker
Writer, or one of each – choose whichever combination fits bests with your school’s device provision.
Can I buy Clicker using a Purchase Order (PO)?
Absolutely – the invoice will be sent out when we email over the license keys and installation information.
Are there any additional costs for technical supports or updates?
No – during your subscription period you will be provided with free technical support and any updates to Clicker 8 and/or Clicker Writer will also be provided free of charge.
Can I pay for the three-year license in installments?
Schools purchasing the 50 License or Site License packages can choose to split the cost over two or three years – please contact us if this would be of interest.
Can I buy a one-year license?
We have chosen to make Clicker a three-year subscription rather than a one-year subscription because we know that schools need reassurance that any provision they invest in for their students will be available to them for the next few years, without having to worry about whether there will be enough to cover it in next year’s budget! The three-year subscription provides schools with the time they need to effectively set-up, install and implement Clicker, and ensures that they benefit from all the exciting new updates and additions we plan to release during this period.
Can I add more licenses during the subscription? How does that work?
Yes – if you wish to move to a Clicker Site License we can provide you with a prorated price that takes the time remaining on your current subscription into account. If you wish to buy a smaller number of additional licenses, such as a 5 or 10 license bundle, your 3-year subscription will start from the date you receive your license key email from us. Please contact us for a personalized quote.
How much will the subscription renewal cost?
We will be in touch during the final year of your subscription to discuss your needs going forward and provide a personalized quote. While the pricing depends on a number of factors, you can be assured you will receive a loyalty discount as a current subscriber.
Do you offer district wide licensing options for Clicker?

Can we order a Clicker License and share it between school buildings?
No, our licensing is provided on a ‘per school’ basis. If you are designated as separate schools, then each school needs its own license.
I’d like to upgrade from Clicker 7 – do I have to buy the same number of licenses for the new version?
No - as a Clicker 7 customer we are offering you the chance to take advantage of any of our upgrade prices, regardless of how many licenses you currently have for Clicker 7. For example, even customers who currently have a single computer license for Clicker 7 can buy the Clicker Universal Site License at the $2700 price rather than the standard $4500 price!
Can I still use my Clicker 7 licenses if I upgrade?
No - When you take advantage of one of our upgrade discounts, you are essentially ‘trading in’ your Clicker 7 licenses to receive this discount. Therefore, you will not be licensed to use Clicker 7 on any of your machines once you have upgraded.
Can I upgrade some licenses now and others in the future?
You can only take advantage of the upgrade discount once. So, if you upgrade now and wish to buy more licenses during your subscription period, these will be available at the standard prices.
Home access to Clicker
We have a Clicker Site License; how do we give access to the software for home use?
You will need to request home user licenses via your Clicker license management system. This is a very straightforward process - see the support article here.
With the Clicker Site License can the home access be for iPad or Chromebooks even if we only have Windows computers in school?
Yes – your license enables parents and teaching staff to use Clicker on their home devices. If that device is a Windows/Mac computer, you can provide them with the installation instructions for Clicker 8. If they are using an iPad or Chromebook, they can use Clicker Writer.
How do I share resources for children to access on their home devices?
There are a variety of ways to share Clicker resources and documents, the most popular being via a cloud-based platform such as Google Classroom, DropBox or OneDrive. You can email resources to students, too.
I’m a parent and my child’s school does not have a Site License. Can you buy Clicker for home use?
Yes – parents can purchase a ‘1+1’ home user license for Clicker, which is the same as the school’s version of the software but offered at a 50% discount. The 1+1 license gives you up to two installations of Clicker on your home devices - this could be two licenses for Clicker 8, two licenses for Clicker Writer, or one of each – choose whichever combination works best for you. How do we access the LearningGrids resources?
In Clicker 8 or Clicker Writer, go to Explorer and select LearningGrids (Internet connection required).
How do we share Clicker files?
You can share files across your network or use your preferred cloud service such as Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive. Clicker files are fully compatible across Windows, Mac, iPad and Chromebook.
