Crick’s environmental commitment demonstrated by an Investors in the Environment accreditation

May 29, 2019

Over the past year we have been working with the Investors in the Environment (iiE) to put in to place action plans and policies to show our commitment to being a sustainable business. We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Bronze level accreditation for 2019.

This accreditation process provides a step-by-step approach to ensuring we are working towards our ultimate aim: becoming a carbon neutral business. The Investors in the Environment assessor remarked in their executive summary that:

“Crick Software has a clear environmental policy, thorough action plans, and robust measuring and monitoring systems. By having strong basic processes in place, Crick have been able to take positive steps towards achieving several of their main objectives.”

This is the first year that we have been working with, and audited by, the Investors in the Environment. Their annual audit includes a focus on the following key areas:

  • Environmental Policy
  • Resource management and monitoring
  • Progress against targets
  • Action planning including social / environmental projects
  • Communication

The iiE also commented that we “have established a strong basis for environmental improvements,” but we know that we can do more to reduce our environmental impact. To make this happen, we’ve set several targets for ourselves, including reducing our gas, electricity, and water usage by around 5%, as well as tracking and reviewing our ongoing usage throughout the year.

Now that we have all of our baseline data we can see where our focus should be this year. We have also measured our carbon footprint and plan to offset this as part of our continued commitment to becoming greener and empowering our staff to create realistic and meaningful changes to our workplace. By 2020 we hope to have achieved the iiE’s highest “Green” accreditation.
