Clicker 7

Can't open a LearningGrids resource in Clicker 7

While browsing LearningGrids in Clicker 7's Explorer, you click a resource's Run Now button but nothing happens.
You may receive an error message saying Unsupported File Type or that the Clicker Set is corrupted.

Resolution

Firewalls or proxy servers can prevent Clicker 7 from downloading resources successfully.

A workaround is to access www.learninggrids.com using a web browser instead of Clicker 7. You can download the resource as a file, which you can then open in Clicker 7.

If a firewall is installed, try adding Clicker 7 to the firewall's exclusion list. The location is:

32bit Windows - C:\Program Files\Crick Software\Clicker 7\Clicker 7.exe

64bit Windows - C:\Program Files (x86)\Crick Software\Clicker 7\Clicker 7.exe

If you're unsure how to do this, or it doesn't solve the issue, please pass the following information to your IT Support.

Information for Network Administrators

Clicker 7 uses the computer's proxy settings to connect to the Internet. When a user downloads a resource from LearningGrids, the following happens:

  1. User clicks the Run Now button.
  2. Clicker 7 requests the page https://www.learninggrids.com/ResourceStream.aspx?... (the exact URL depends on the chosen resource).
  3. The web server responds with the resource file. In the response, the web server sets the MIME content type in the HTTP header, so that the computer can determine how the file should be used.

Users may have difficulties downloading resources if unknown MIME types are being blocked, either by a firewall or a proxy server.

If your firewall or proxy server is preventing files from being downloaded, please try the following:

Allow the following MIME types

Ensure the following MIME types are allowed through the firewall via HTTPS for website access (and SMTP if you wish to allow these files to be emailed):

If the firewall supports it, we recommend adding the wildcard:

application/vnd.crick.*

Alternatively, you can add each MIME type individually:

.clkx application/vnd.crick.clicker

.clkk application/vnd.crick.clicker.keyboard

.clkp application/vnd.crick.clicker.palette

.clkt application/vnd.crick.clicker.template

.cadoc application/vnd.crick.clicker.appdocument

.clks application/vnd.crick.clicker.sentences

.clkd application/vnd.crick.clicker.docs

.clkb application/vnd.crick.clicker.books

.clkc application/vnd.crick.clicker.connect

These files are written in XML and do not contain any executable code or registry data.

Add LearningGrids.com to your list of safe sites

If your firewall or proxy server allows you to specify safe websites, add a rule to allow the address www.learninggrids.com, or add this address to the list of safe sites.

If the firewall only supports IP addresses, use 23.100.48.185. Only Crick Software websites are hosted at this IP address. If you need to specify other information, the protocols are; HTTP (port number 80) and HTTPS (port number 443).

Mark the following URLs as safe

When a user downloads a file from our website, they always do so through the following URLs. To ensure these URLs are not blocked, add a rule to always allow these URLs:

Downloading from LearningGrids.com

https://www.learninggrids.com/ResourceStream.aspx

Disable "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

This Internet Explorer setting is disabled by default. If enabled, it prevents files being downloaded over HTTPS, leaving Clicker 7 unable to download resources from LearningGrids.

The setting can be found in the Advanced tab of Internet Options in Control Panel. The corresponding Group Policy is:

User Configuration - Windows Settings - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet Explorer - Internet Control Panel - Advanced Page - "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
