Error: Clicker 7 Installer "can't be opened" on Mac

When running the Clicker 7 Installer, you receive this error message:
<filename> can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Resolution

Apple now requires apps to be "notarized" (submitted to them for in-depth scrutiny and approval).

If you run an unnotarized app, macOS blocks it and shows the above error message instead.

Clicker 7 was discontinued before notarization was required.

Fortunately, there is a workaround:

  1. Click OK to close the error message.
  2. Right-click the file named Clicker 7 Installer and choose Open.
  3. At the security prompt, click Open.
  4. Click Install Clicker on this computer.
  5. At the security prompt, click OK.
  6. Open your Mac's System Preferences and click Security & Privacy.
  7. Click Open Anyway.
  8. At the security prompt, click Open.

Clicker 8 is a newer product and has been fully notarized in accordance with Apple's requirements.
