How can I share files on Windows / Mac?

You would like to send and receive files with other users.

Resolution

You can share your Clicker / DocsPlus files using your school network, cloud storage, or email.

School network

If you have a network installation of Clicker 8 / DocsPlus, the Shared Files folder is located on your network. Files saved there will be accessible to all other Clicker 8 / DocsPlus computers on your network.

If you have multiple standalone installations instead, you can still open / save files on the network. To do this, click Desktop on the left of the Explorer window and double-click Network.

Cloud storage

A cloud storage account is essentially an "Internet folder", which you can access from multiple devices. If you save a file there using one device, it immediately becomes available on all your other devices.

You can also choose to share certain files / folders with other people. This is especially useful for supporting classes. Once a teacher has saved a file to cloud storage, it can be made available to all their students, regardless of whether they’re using a Windows PC, Mac, iPad or Chromebook.

Sign up to a provider

If you don’t already have a cloud storage account, you can sign up to one of these free providers:

Set up a computer

To access your cloud storage on a computer, download and install the software offered on the provider's website. This will create a folder on your computer that automatically syncs with your cloud storage.

Next, create a shortcut to your cloud storage in Clicker 8 / DocsPlus:

  1. Click Explorer in the bottom-left corner.
  2. In the Files tab, click Shared Files on the left.
  3. Right-click anywhere on the white background and choose New Shortcut.
  4. Browse to your cloud folder and click OK.

Save a File

  1. Click the arrow beside Save in the Document Clicker Set / Smart Tab ribbon tab and choose Save As.
  2. Click Shared Files on the left and double-click the cloud shortcut you added.
  3. Save the file in your cloud folder.

It typically takes seconds for your file to be uploaded to your cloud storage (depending on Internet speed).

Open a File

  1. In Clicker 8 / DocsPlus, click Explorer in the bottom-left corner.
  2. In the Files tab, click Shared Files on the left and double-click the cloud shortcut you added.
  3. Double-click the file to open it.

Email

Email is accessible on most devices and most people are familiar with using it. It's a good way to share files every now and then. For regular file sharing, consider using cloud storage instead.

Send

  1. In Clicker 8 / DocsPlus, click Explorer in the bottom-left corner.
  2. Browse to your file.
  3. Right-click the file and choose Email.

  3. Click the arrow beside Save in the Document Clicker SetSmart Tab ribbon tab (depending on the file type).
