Can't open a LearningGrids resource

On LearningGrids, nothing happens when clicking a resource's Run Now button.
You may receive an error message saying Unsupported File Type or that the Clicker Set is corrupted.

Resolution

This is usually caused by a firewall or proxy server blocking the download.

If you're on a Windows device, try this:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, start typing internet options and click the result when it appears.
  2. On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section.
  3. Is the Do not save encrypted pages to disk checkbox enabled? If so, disable it, and then click OK.

If this doesn't solve the issue, please link your IT Support to this support article.

As an alternative, visit www.learninggrids.com in a web browser. Find the resource and click its Download button (free account required).

For IT Professionals

Ensure your firewall / proxy to specify safe websites, add a rule to allow www.learninggrids.com.

If it only supports IP addresses: 156.67.246.246 and 75.127.145.68

If you need to specify protocols: HTTP (Port 80) and HTTPS (Port 443)

Disable "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

This Internet Explorer setting is disabled by default. If enabled, it prevents files being downloaded over HTTPS.

The setting can be found in the Advanced tab of Internet Options in Control Panel. The corresponding Group Policy is:

User Configuration - Windows Settings - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet Explorer - Internet Control Panel - Advanced Page - "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

Allow MIME types

All our file types are written in standard XML and do not contain any executable code.

When the LearningGrids web server responds, it includes the MIME content type of the requested file in the HTTP header (so the receiving device knows how to open it).

Ensure your firewall / proxy is configured to allow the following MIME types over HTTPS (and optionally SMTP to allow files to be emailed).

If the firewall / proxy supports wildcards, this will cover all Crick Software products:

application/vnd.crick.*

Alternatively, add each one individually:
