Support for students with speech or language impairments

Practice speaking skills

Clicker’s sound recorder opens up a range of activities to help children practice speaking in a variety of contexts. Students can listen back to what they have recorded, reflect on what they have said, and re-record as many times as they like until they are satisfied.

  • Listen and Say activities present children with a series of pictures - click on each picture to hear the associated word. Students use the recorder to practice pronouncing the words themselves, using the model for guidance.
  • Tell the Story activities can be used to break down any story or procedure into sections, so that children can record a small amount of information about each step at a manageable pace. Click on the speaker button at the end of the activity to play the whole recording back as one fluent piece of oral work, which really helps to build confidence.
  • Question and Answer activities give students the opportunity to answer a series of oral questions. Using the sound recorder creates a non-threatening environment for children to rehearse a conversation.
