School/College LearningGrids World sites - FAQ

How much does it cost for my school to have a LearningGrids World site of our own?
There is no charge at all, and you get 50MB of free storage too!

Will we still get all the free resources?
Yes, you get exactly the same free resources when you have your own site, with new resources normally added every two weeks.

Can I start a site just for my class?
The site will be set up in the name of your school, but it's perfectly OK for you to use it just with your class.

I work for a support service – can we set up a site for our service?
So long as you work within one local authority, you can set up a site for your service. Your site must be accessed only by the staff that work for your service and the students taught by those staff.

Who will be responsible for managing my school/college site?
Whoever requests the setting up of your site will automatically become the Site Manager.

How much technical knowledge do I need to manage the site?
None. There's nothing to install, as everything is on our servers. All you have to do is add pupils and teachers to the site using our friendly user interface.

How long will it take Crick Software to set up our site?
New sites are normally set up within two working days.

How do I control who can access the site?
As the Site Manager, you have sole authority to give teachers and students access to your site. You can also remove users at any time.

If I start a School or College site, what will happen to the online folders that I have now – will my files be lost?
You will use the same login as you do on LearningGrids World now. All your folders and their contents will remain the same.

Once my school or college site is set up, how will everyone log into it?
You will still go to www.LearningGrids.com and log in just as you do now. Your login details are recognised and you are automatically taken to your school/college site.

How easy is it for other staff to use the site?
Very easy. They'll be up and running in no time using our intuitive user interface.

What if my school needs more storage space than LearningGrids World allows?
You can subscribe to more space for just £99 per gigabyte per year.

What if individual staff or pupils/students are using too much space?
The Site Manager can view the amount of space being used by each member of the site, so you can inform the individual.

How do I prevent unauthorized people from accessing our site?
The Site Manager has complete control over access to the site. No-one can access the site without first being authorized by the Site Manager. If someone leaves the school or is not obeying the site rules, it is very easy for the Site Manager to exclude them from the site.

What if I set up a site and then decide that it's not right for my school?
No problem – just let us know and we'll close it down.
