Clicker Success Stories

Chris Johnson

I have been working with Clicker for a few months and only began teaching a class in February.  I have started using Clicker to support the AEN children in my class and have been very pleased with the results.

I have set up a number of Clicker grids to help the children work independently on the high- and medium-frequency words.  The grids I have made have 6 sound buttons that the children click on.  These then say one of the words they are focussing in on.  They then have to select the right word from a choice in a pop-up grid.  As they select the word that they think it is, the word is said aloud. They can then use this audio cue to determine whether this is correct or not. If not, they continue selecting until they hear the correct word.

This then provides me with a very good diagnostic tool...

Every word they select is listed in their document.  This then provides me with a very good diagnostic tool to determine the words they need additional help with.  I have set up grids for the year R, and year 1 and 2 high- and medium-frequency words.   My plan is to take this activity one step further to enable the children to take those words and use them in the construction of simple sentences.  Once they have done this, I will also be able to test their knowledge and understanding by providing them with a sentence, and asking them to put in the relevant missing word from a list of these focus words.

I have also downloaded grids from the website which I have used with the children to support particular topic areas.  I have only been teaching for a few months but am finding Clicker an invaluable tool and intend to use it a lot more as a tool to support all the children in my class.
