Clicker is a great favorite among speech and language professionals as well as special needs teachers. Clicker activities are perfect for children struggling to acquire language or to express themselves.

Develop listening skills

Pupils practice discriminating sounds using specially-designed sound matching activities, such as those in Planet Wobble. You can make your own sound matching activities too - record your own using Clicker's built-in voice recorder, or download sounds from the Internet .

Practise speaking skills

Clicker talking books are an ideal environment for practising speaking skills in a non-threatening environment. For example, make a picture book of a recent class trip and let the pupil record his or her voice on each page, talking about the picture.

Alternatively, have an additional button that gives the pupil a model sentence to listen to. They then record their own voice and compare it to the original. They can re-record their voice any number of times until they are satisfied. It's a great way for speech or language impaired learners to gain confidence and independence. And it provides a fantastic record of achievement.

Focus on language structure

Use sentence building grids to teach and reinforce simple sentence structure. For learners needing additional support, use 'forced order' grids where they have to select words in the correct order from left to right.

Modelled sentence grids are another powerful way to help pupils internalise language by providing a model sentence for the pupil to look at and listen to. The model appears in a popup, and although the pupil can open the popup whenever they wish, they can only write words into their own sentence while the popup is closed. Activities to teach and practise specific language concepts By using pictures and presenting a set of alternative choices, pupils learn concepts, as for example in this activity where they choose the correct preposition to complete the sentence.
Enable communication Pupils with little or no speech who need a communication aid, use customised Clicker grids to communicate. Symbol sets are a great way to provide symbol support. Customise communication grid sets for individual pupils, linking together relevant grids to fit their needs.
