Features

Can I use my Clicker 4 grids that I have made?

Yes, Clicker 4 grids will work in Clicker 5, so you can use all your existing materials.

Can I use Planet Wobble, Find Out & Write About, Clicker Books and all my other Clicker resources?

Yes, all Clicker 4 resources will work in Clicker 5. What's more, all the Find Out & Write About titles and all Planet Wobble titles have now been rebuilt in Clicker 5, so they look even better!

Can I use my own templates?

Yes. And if you make your template into a Master Grid, you can edit all the grids simply by editing the Master Grid.

Can I still link grids?

Linking grids is even easier in Clicker 5. To order a simple sequence, just drag them into order in Clicker Explorer. Of course, you can set up cells to link to other grids too.

Can I change the colour of the grid?

Yes, not only the colour of the grid, but you can also have gradient effects, patterns and background graphics.

Can you use Clicker 5 in full-screen mode?

Yes, you can hide the menus and run Clicker 5 full-screen.

Graphics

How are graphics stored?

Graphics are all embedded in Clicker 5 files, so it's really easy to move and share files.

Can you still use picture libraries?

You can still use all your picture libraries in Clicker 5. Clicker 5 also comes with a brand new, highly detailed picture library.

Can I still use the Clicker 4 picture library as well as the new one?

Yes, simply make a copy of the Clicker 4 picture library before you install Clicker 5, then register it as a picture library in Clicker 5.

Which file formats are supported for graphics, sound & video?

You can use all the file formats you used for Clicker 4, plus you can use PNG and EMF graphics, MP3 audio and MPEG video.

Speech

Can I still record my own speech?

Yes, and you can also set up a cell to show a 'Record Sound' pop-up grid, making it really easy for pupils to record their own voice. Whatever sound you record can be played instantly by another cell. The Record Sound pop-up is switch accessible, too.

Does it highlight words when spoken?

Yes, Clicker 5 highlights words automatically when spoken by its high quality British English speech engine. It can even highlight real speech.

Can you change the text highlight to a background rather than the letters?

Yes, you can highlight the letters or background, and change the colour of the highlight.

Languages

Can I type in non-Roman scripts?

Yes, Clicker 5 is based on Unicode, so you can use all sorts of languages.

Can I get voices for languages other than English?

Yes, we can provide high-quality foreign language voices for use with Clicker 5.

Technical

Can I use Clicker 5 on a network?

Clicker 5 comes with an .msi installer, so it's easy to install on a network.

Can I still save my own preferences?

Yes, your user preferences are saved according to who's logged in to Windows, so there's no need to login to Clicker 5. You can access your own personal files in Clicker Explorer through a shortcut to the logged in user's 'My Documents' folder. If you save your word lists and keyboards in this folder, you can personalize them to suit your needs.

LearningGrids

Will there be Clicker 5 materials on LearningGrids site?

There are already free Clicker 5 materials on LearningGrids, which we will add to every two weeks once Clicker 5 is released.

What about the Clicker 4 materials on LearningGrids?

These will still work in Clicker 5. We will also be remaking them to take advantage of Clicker 5's new technologies.

Pop-up grids

How easy is it to set up an activity with pop-up grids?

Very easy - simply set up a cell to open a pop-up grid, and select one of the pop-up master grids. Then simply drag the pop-up to the size and position you want, and Shift-click to edit the text in the cells as you would in any grid.

Can you link pop-ups?

Yes, you can make a cell on a pop-up open another pop-up.

Access and Communication

Is Clicker 5 switch accessible?

Yes, Clicker 5 is switch accessible and can be used with the Crick USB Switch Box. New features like pop-up grids are also switch accessible, including the Record Sound pop-up. This means switch users can write their own talking books and record their own voice. With Clicker 5 you can also scan groups of cells and have as many scan groups as you like, enabling you to drill down quickly and easily to the cell you want.

How can I use Clicker 5 as a communication aid?

You can use text, symbols and speech in Clicker 5 to communicate. Grids can be combined into printed communication books or used as on-screen dynamic displays with text, symbols and speech output.

Can I use my eLCs?

Yes, you can use your electronic Learning Credits to order Clicker 5.

Is Clicker 5 available for Mac?

Yes, Clicker 5 is now available for Mac.

What version of Mac OS does it work on?

Mac OS X 10.2.8 and up.

Does Clicker 5 work on Intel-based Macs too?

Yes, Clicker 5 works on the new Intel-based Macs.

Can I buy Clicker 5 for home use?

Yes, if you live in the UK you can buy a single-user version of Clicker 5 for home use only. You cannot buy additional user licences for this version to use it at school.

Can I upgrade from Clicker 4?

Yes, we have special upgrade prices for schools and home users.

Can I upgrade my user licences?

Yes, and you will be eligible for a discount if you upgrade them at the same time you buy the Clicker 5 upgrade. You can also buy additional user licences at this discounted price at the time of upgrade.

How much is Clicker 5?

Clicker 5 is £120, plus £20 for each additional user licence. If you upgrade from Clicker 4, the price is £75 and £15 for each additional user licence (at the time of upgrade only).
