I am working with small groups of children in years 3-6 in our computer suite. We have been using Clicker to support their writing in lots of different ways. Recently I have been working on their spellings – by putting the letters in separate cells and getting the children to use Clicker, we have been able to make practising spelling much more visual.
We have used Clicker to write traditional stories using a Grid Set that we downloaded from the website of free resources. Clicker is also used to provide literacy booster groups looking at nouns and verbs.
After a recent school trip to a local farm, I used Clicker with some of the children who need additional support to write about their trip. We set up a number of Clicker Grids to write up about their day out. Then I helped the children to produce a talking book all about the farm. They chose the pictures and the sounds that we used, and then we printed out a record of their work.
"If they needed more details, they
could come back to the whiteboard..."We have used some of the Find out and Write About titles in our literacy and topic work. We used the whiteboard to present the information about the Ancient Greeks. The children then went away and wrote about what they had learnt. If they needed more details, they could come back to the whiteboard, review the information, use the linked writing grids, and then continue with their work.
All of the children love to use Clicker as they can see the picture and the word; they can hear the words and can write independently without having to type into a blank page from the keyboard. They are having lots of fun, and produce high-quality work which they are very proud of. They find it really motivating and often don’t realise that they are actually working!
