I use Clicker daily with my class of year one pupils.  I use it across all subject areas and find it particularly useful as I have a wide range of abilities in my class.  I have children who are fluent readers, to those who are still working at phonics.  The beauty of Clicker is that I can easily differentiate for the needs of the particular child.

Clicker easily enables me to develop appropriate material across the whole curriculum for a wide range of abilities. I download grids from the website of free resources, LearningGrids.  I tend to use these grids with the more able children as they are, and either change them, or create my own for children at different levels.  

We use Planet Wobble books as big books on the interactive whiteboard as well as for guided reading, individual reading and independent activities. I also use Clicker for numeracy, science, history and geography.  In fact I use it for all subject areas, it is so flexible and there are so many resources I can use on topics linked to QCAs.

I recently used the DVD Toy Story as my main literacy source. I imported pictures and the children used them in various word and sentence grids to write about the story.  They were very exciting and really engaged the children's interest.

Then we used the Clicker 5 History grids, toys from the past/old & new toys, which linked into a topic looking at houses.  We went out around the locality and took photographs of houses.  We created a talking book about the different types of houses and then took it one step further by using the photos as a labelling activity.

In Science we have been learning about pushing and pulling.  We really were able to take the children to the next level, looking at push and pull forces and recording their work using some sentence-building grids with appropriate vocabulary.  Clicker enabled me to link the curriculum and differentiate appropriately. The children were able to learn at their own pace with programmes they could relate to from previous experiences.

The speech feedback is also a great tool as the children can self-correct and also click to hear.  If they are not happy with it, they can easily make changes.  It is much easier to hear the mistake than it is to see it in their written work, and so Clicker has really helped with their grammar and sentence construction.  In fact, I can see a real improvement in their written work too – they are not afraid to try words, then check and change them if they need to!

We use Clicker extensively in the year one and two classes and have really started to make use of it in reception since we installed interactive whiteboards in the classrooms.  We share expertise in the staffroom and swap ideas.

The beauty of Clicker is that it is really easy to set it up; we are not focussing on the process but the learning objective.  I use Clicker as one of the main inputs in their learning, they love it & actively ask to use it.  It is a fantastic motivational tool that no child can fail with.  There are no negatives – the children are actively encouraged to try before they write, to discuss and make changes.  Their enthusiasm for Clicker is amazing; they don’t want to go out to play!
