Group Work
You can use ClozePro
activities with a group using a large screen. The teacher can use
the activity text for teaching, discussing with the group the words
to be used in the gaps.
Here are a few ideas:
- Delete all the examples of a particular word
class and ask the students in pairs to discuss the missing word;
discuss alternative suggestions, compare them with the original
word and discuss effectiveness. Hide the grid for this exercise,
so students do not have words to help; then show the correct word
in the grid when the alternatives have been collected.
- Have a passage or sentence on the screen without
any words removed. Delete a particular word class with the group
- 'Can anyone find a verb in the sentence?'
- Add words to sentences with the group, e.g. 'Where
would we put the adjective? Which adjectives might we use?' and
collect a range of alternatives.
- Replace overused words such as 'said'. Have a
range of alternatives in the missing words area and discuss which
sound better and why. And/or collect alternatives with the group.
- Offer more interesting words, such as powerful
verbs, e.g. take out 'walked' and offer 'strolled', 'raced', 'sauntered'
etc. Discuss which sound better and why. And/or collect alternatives
with the group.
Students can then use the ClozePro passages you've
used for practice and reinforcement/follow-up.
Editing/Revision/Looking at work in progress
Use a piece of written work and discuss where work could be improved,
e.g. where the student could have used more interesting vocabulary
that would reflect/enhance the mood of the piece, spelling errors
and punctuation. You can use this idea to give support to an individual
- another way of marking a pice of work - or can be done collectively
as a method of showing how students can improve a piece of work.
Using an activity for revision as part of a plenary session
You can use ClozePro to pull the lesson together at the end to
practise what has been learned, e.g. 'Can anyone find the adjective?'
or 'Can anyone remember the facts?'. You can fill in the passage
together and offer distracters for the gaps.
