Clicker Success Stories

Barbara Woolwright

I am a Special Needs High-Level Teaching Assistant and I specialise in working with Downs Syndrome children. I have used Clicker both for one-to-one work and with groups of children – both to great effect.  I use Clicker daily to enable children I work with to access their everyday learning in a mainstream school.

Because many of the children I work with are visual learners, the multimedia features of Clicker make resource creation incredibly easy for me. I can take photos of the children doing a particular activity and have a talking story or word bank prepared using the digital images in no time at all! The facility to incorporate images so easily in Clicker means that the children I work with are able to record their work at the same time as the other children in the class. On school trips, photos are taken as a record of the visit, and then used to create grids to support the children’s writing on our return. I always print off the results of the children’s work to take home and show parents.

The speech support in Clicker is immensely useful in feeding back to the children on the sentences they have created.

I am a huge fan of the LearningGrids website – I think I must have downloaded at least 70 or 80 Clicker Sets! Now, with the direct access from Clicker and no need to log in to LearningGrids World, I can access the resources even more easily.

Time and again I have found that Clicker has directly contributed to really significant improvements in the standards of reading and writing with the children I teach – I would thoroughly recommend using it with any ability child!
