Clicker Switch Activities
Purpose-built activities for switch users
These activities allow switch users to practise using switches in an engaging and fun way. They also provide opportunities to evaluate the user’s access method and to assess progress in a variety of tasks.
Switch Activities – People uses a combination of graphics, sounds and video, and features twenty characters. As well as stimulating the user to access the computer with one or two switches, the activities promote interaction between the user and teachers, carers and classmates. They afford opportunities to describe and discuss what happens on screen and to guess or predict what will happen next. For users new to scanning, Clicker’s ability to use two switches means that partner or assisted scanning can be used, or two users can work collaboratively.
The activities are arranged in four categories.
Press & Play has four cause-and-effect activities. These give the user a response each time a selection is made. They have small-step progress built in. For example, in Single Picture, each selection plays a video, whereas in Picture Build 2 the user has to make several selections in order to reveal the picture and view the video.

Choose & See has four activities that require the user to select a particular character in order to elicit a response. They cover matching pictures and following spoken instructions. Tracking a scanning highlight is introduced and, in Matching Partners, there is a necessity to understand what the pictures represent rather than just match them visually. |
