After a quick lunch, I'll get down to some work! As well as meetings,
I also have a number of tasks that I'm managing. I'm off to the
World Education Market exhibition in Portugal next week, looking
for partners in Europe to sell our products. I've been looking to
organise translations of Clicker into some additional European languages,
and so have had a number of email correspondences with translation
agencies regarding costs. We've got a translation kit, which makes
the process easier, and already have Clicker translated into Norwegian,
Finnish and Swedish.
I'm also involved in final testing for a number of our products,
and so have scheduled in some time to test the new Mac installer.
This ensures that when a product is released, that it is a stable,
reliable product. And I know, because I tested it!
As the company has grown, so has the requirement for technical
support. I'm currently working with our Technical Support Manager
to update the support area of our web site to include common queries
and their solutions.
My computer has just reminded me that I've got a scheduled call
to the CEO of our US Company at 5pm. It's 9am in Seattle, so they're
only just starting their day as ours is closing. It's taken time
to get the US company up and running and I've been making frequent
visits to help with the initial set up. There are unique issues
in America, not least the vast geographical issues and autonomy
of each state. It's been interesting to see how their education
system works and how it can differ so much from state to state.
It certainly gives credibility to our National Curriculum.
As the day ends, I often remember how I started in one room of
our house. Now, Clicker is one of the best selling products in UK
schools and we have dealers in 19 countries and a US subsidiary.
Our turnover is over £1 million. But the real satisfaction
comes from working with dedicated and talented people to create
software that really does make a difference to children of all abilities.
