Clicker
is fun... and learning too
The Teacher, March 2000
Ann
Logan selects some of the best resources online and enjoys a new
CD Rom for reading and writing.
This
CD Rom is an interest-grabbing writing and reading tool. It is easy
to use and is designed for a wide variety of abilities. Work with
early readers, challenge your older writers or help struggling readers.
The
Clicker 4 screen is colourful and inviting, it is divided into a
talking word processor (Clicker Writer) and grids, which hold words,
pictures and sounds. Type in the word processor or click on words
in the grid to build sentences or a story. Choose the words on the
grid or add your own. The computer will read each sentence back
to you!
There
are thousands of ideas to encourage pupils to write as well as develop
their IT skills. Choose pictures from the well-stocked libraries
or add ones you have taken.
Clicker4
is also a multimedia tool. Make a picture dictionary in French or
create a report about your school, using children’s own photos,
voices —and even video clips.
This
software can also be used to develop reading skills. Create information
grids about, say, people’s jobs. Children can read and listen
to the text. Link these to grids for writing, so children can write
down sentences about what they have understood.
Add
to Clicker by using the additional grids, which have been designed
by teachers, on the Clicker website. Visit Clicker grids for Learning
