Tomorrow's World On-line guide
Earl’s Court, 28th June – 2nd July 2000
Crick Software will be creating an on-line guide to the Tomorrow’s
World Live Show in London this month. Following last year’s
success, the company has again been invited to participate in the
show which runs at Earl’s Court from 28th June until 2nd July.
Using the latest, internet-friendly version of Clicker, visitors
will be able to contribute their comments on the show in sound,
text and photographs. Each evening this will be uploaded onto Crick
Software’s website at www.cricksoft.com,
creating a day-by-day commentary by visitors of all ages and abilities.
Clicker has won numerous awards and been given Millennium Product
status by the Design Council. It is widely used by children in tens
of thousands of schools across the UK, in America, Europe and Australasia.
Based on a flexible grid system, the program is easy to use and
allows students to write with the click of a mouse, using whole
words, phrases and pictures with speech support.
The newest version, Clicker 4, released in March, has been completely
rewritten in html format. This means that children using the software
for writing support and extension can email their documents instantly
or publish them on the web.
“We believe in encouraging success in writing,” said
John Crick, director. “Using the latest technology as a tool
is a great incentive to today’s young learners to succeed
in writing.” The inclusion of multimedia features, like the
facility to create instant talking books or interactive pictures
with music and video, make Clicker 4 a ground breaking tool for
the raising of standards in schools.
On its own website, Crick offer a huge bank of add-on resources,
free to users of the software. Clicker Grids for Learning can be
accessed at www.cricksoft.com,
encouraging busy teachers to use the Internet for sharing and support.
Tomorrow’s World visitors can find Clicker in the Literacy
Area of the DfEE Learning Curve where they can have hands-on participation
of this innovative software and contribute to the creation of their
own Internet experience.
