On-line guide to Tomorrow's World Live 2000
Earl’s Court, 28th June – 2nd July 2000
Crick Software are creating an on-line guide to Tomorrow’s
World Live, the UK’s foremost show for innovation, running
this week at Earl’s Court in London. This follows the company’s
successful participation in last year’s show.
Using the latest, internet-friendly version of Clicker, visitors
of all ages and abilities are able to contribute their comments
on the show using text and photographs. Contributions will be continuously
uploaded onto Crick Software’s website at www.cricksoft.com,
creating a day-by-day commentary on-line.
Clicker has won numerous awards and been given Millennium Product
status by the Design Council. Based on a flexible grid system, the
program is easy to use and allows students to write with the click
of a mouse, using whole words, phrases and pictures. Everything
is supported with speech. For those unable to use a mouse, the software
is fully accessible through switch presses, making it totally inclusive
for all.
“We believe in encouraging success in writing,” said
John Crick, director. “Using the latest technology as a tool
is a great incentive to today’s young learners to succeed.”
The newest version of the program, Clicker 4, runs in html format.
This means that children using the software can email their documents
instantly or publish them on the web. The inclusion of multimedia
features, like the facility to create instant talking books or interactive
pictures with music and video, make it a ground breaking tool for
the raising of standards in schools.
Crick Software’s own website offers continually updated support
for teachers in the classroom. A huge and expanding bank of add-on
resources is available free to users of the software. Clicker Grids
for Learning can be accessed at www.clickergrids.com,
encouraging the use of the Internet for sharing and support in education.
Tomorrow’s World visitors can find Clicker in the Literacy
Area of the DfEE Learning Curve where they can have hands-on experience
of this innovative software and contribute to the on-line guide.
