New resources for success in writing
Special Needs Show, London: 2-4 November 2000
Crick Software, winner of five Special Needs Awards, will be showing
new software for raising writing standards with children of all
abilities at the Special Needs Show in London. The Find Out and
Write About series will encourage young learners in reading and
writing, using non-fiction text.
Clicker is already raising writing standards in thousands of schools
across the UK. Children who have never written before are succeeding
using Clicker Grids. By simply clicking a mouse they can write using
whole words, phrases and pictures. In addition, multimedia features
enable the instant creation of talking books to further encourage
reading and writing skills.
The new Find Out and Write About applications are colourful, add-on
resources for use with Clicker, combining these two powerful features.
Talking book pages of simple non-fiction text are linked to Clicker
Grids for writing. These contain all the vocabulary to enable children
to write about what they have learned. High quality sampled speech
on every page means users can listen to the text read clearly, enabling
them to work independently. The material is presented at two levels
in each pack, allowing for differentiation.
“We support the current concern to improve writing standards,”
said John Crick, Director. “Using the latest technology as
a tool is a great incentive to today’s young learners to succeed.”
Ideal for busy teachers, these resources are complete for instant
use in the classroom and can be run straight from the CD. Pictures
can be printed out with the finished document and a speaking glossary
explains difficult or subject specific words.
These Clicker applications support early learners in using the
computer for independent research. In addition, they can be used
as a focus for class or group based literacy activities. Titles
so far include: Minibeasts, Under the Sea, Animals and Castles.
Prices: £25 site licence (Requires Clicker 4: £90 Single
User, £12 Additional User)
