Clicker 4 Raising Writing Standards
The new version of Clicker, winner of five BETT awards and Millennium
Product status, is out now. Clicker 4 is a unique writing and multimedia
tool, offering support and stimulation to children of all abilities.
The software includes a re-designed talking word processor in html
format from which documents can be published straight to the internet
or email. A range of templates for Clicker grids make it possible
to create instant talking books or on-the-spot resources in the
classroom.
Children from nursery age upwards can build their writing skills
supported with speech and a thousand colourful graphics. Older children
can have instant access to talking wordbanks or writing frames for
every area of the curriculum.
A new pictorial spell checker is included, which allows teachers
to decide exactly which words they want to target. “We have
designed Clicker to build success, not make children feel they have
failed,” explained Ann Crick. “We don’t want to
discourage early writers by pointing out every word that is wrong.”
Features like this and the child-friendly Sassoon font will help
to raise standards in thousands of schools across the UK where children
are using Clicker.
At the same time the multimedia potential of Clicker 4 can be used
to stimulate and extend literacy work. You can set up on-screen
resources which play video clips or midi files. Link them together
like pages or at random, for interactive exploration. The possibilities
are limited only by the imagination.
Free resources for users of Clicker are available from Crick’s
website – www.cricksoft.com.
The hugely successful Clicker Grids for Learning is a bank of Clicker
grids from experienced teachers, providing a sharing of ideas and
materials.
Clicker 4 is £90 for a single user, plus £10 for each
additional computer on the same site. There is a discount of £40
for upgrades from any earlier version of Clicker. Switch access,
for those who cannot use a mouse, is included in these prices.
