Clicker supports the National Grid for Learning
Crick Software welcomes the opportunities and challenges presented
by the NGfL launched at BETT by David Blunkett.
We look forward to new opportunities for teachers to share ideas
and needs. Our development of Clicker has always been responsive
to the comments of its users. This new initiative will widen chances
for people to share resources and ideas, including those based on
our software. The use of case studies can be an effective tool for
pinpointing both needs to which we can respond, and successes which
we can share with others. We feel this will be an encouragement
to teachers as they expand their use and knowledge of ICT.
Clicker products are aimed at improving literacy for children of
all abilities, and particularly those with special needs, including
switch users. In using Clicker as a tool for this purpose, children
become familiar with the use of computer technology. Because it
is so simple to use in the classroom, it offers positive experience
of the technology to teachers themselves in using ICT within the
curriculum.
The emphasis on training is most welcome. In recognising the importance
of this we have set up a network of ‘Clicker Centres’.
There are now around 80 of these across the UK. Each is provided
with copies of all our software and training materials, so that
we are able to direct enquirers to their local centre for demonstration,
help or training in the use of Clicker products. We use email to
keep the key staff at these centres informed of developments, and
are planning to put our training materials onto our website very
soon. The NGfL is an opportunity to strengthen all these links in
offering effective support to teachers in the classroom.
