Clicker becomes a Millennium Product
14th December 1999, 10.00 a.m., London
Clicker, the educational software program, has been granted Millennium
Product status by the Design Council. This confirms its place in
the Prime Minister's vision of Britain as the creative powerhouse
of the world.
Tony Blair made the announcement in London today at the launch
of the final tranche of the Design Council's Millennium Products
Initiative.
Clicker, developed by Crick Software, is a powerful writing and
multimedia tool. It enables children of all abilities to write with
whole words, phrases and pictures. Clicker supports all areas of
the curriculum and is particularly powerful for the teaching of
literacy.
In step with The National Grid for Learning, Clicker has become
widely used in schools across Britain. It is supported with free
resources on the Internet and is now exported worldwide.
John Crick, Managing Director said, 'We have always worked in partnership
with teachers to make Clicker a product which really works in the
classroom. It is totally accessible to all students, including those
with physical disabilities. We're delighted that as a Millennium
Product, it will be included in the Millennium Dome.'
'I am very pleased that Clicker has been announced as a Millennium
Product,' said Andrew Summers, chief executive of the Design Council.
'It will form part of our collection of the most innovative products
and services created in Britain for the new millennium.'
