C7WH16 - Clicker 7 has detected that there is a problem with SAPI5

Applies To

  • Clicker 7 for Windows

This error message appears when Clicker 7 launches:

Clicker 7 has detected that there is a problem with SAPI5.

When Clicker 7 launches, it tries loading all speech engines on the computer. This includes third-party speech engines. The error message indicates that there was a problem doing this.

The problem may be caused by a faulty speech engine, or leftover registry entries from a program that didn't uninstall correctly.

Third-party programs

We can provide specific workarounds for the problems caused by these third-party programs:

  • Co:Writer
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking
  • Textease

If any of these programs are (or were) installed on your computer, please contact Support.

Previous Clicker versions

If the computer has previous versions of Clicker installed, uninstalling them may fix this problem.

Troubleshooting Guide

Otherwise, identifying the problem requires some trial and error. We have written a guide for customers to follow that explains each step of the process (see below).

This involves editing the Windows Registry, which we recommend that you pass to your ICT Support.
